* Softball: Wayne Christian 12, Falls Lake 5 -- Brianna Verme threw a complete-game five-hitter and recorded nine strikeouts inside the pitcher's circle. Verme doubled, Hannah Sladick tripled and Leah Boswell doubled as Wayne Christian picked up its first win of the season. The Eagles (1-5 overall) visit Neuse Charter today.
Middle schools
* Girls' soccer: Norwayne 2, Dillard 0 -- Colleen Jones and Lydia Butler each punched in a goal for the Cobras, who remained perfect in 10 outings this season. Goalkeeper Taylor Smith logged three saves and earned the shutout between the pipes. Norwayne travels to Eastern Wayne on Thursday.
