Track & Field

University of Mount Olive senior Akiharu Kitigawa turned in a personal-best time and beat an NCAA provisional standard during the prestigious Mt. SAC Relays in California.

Kitigawa completed the men's 10,000k in 30 minutes, 30.93 seconds -- third-best in program history. Runners from all levels competed in the fastest distance events of the year.

Austin Steagall also competed.

Nick Greyno broke two UMO records at the Campbell Invitational. He eclipsed his own program mark with a distance of 49.22 meters in the hammer throw. In the shot put, his throw landed at 14.53 meters.

Guillermo Matesanz logged a distance of 6.86 meters in the long jump -- sixth-best in UMO history. Adam Craig completed the 1,500-meter run in 3:54;84 -- fifth-best in the Trojan record books.

Michael Munoz secured sixth in the 1,500 in 3:58.45.

Cedrick Thomas ran the 100 meters in 10.86 seconds -- just 0.05 seconds behind Metasanz, who broke the school record earlier this season.

On the women's side, Khadijah Carbon threw a personal best in shot put with a distance of 10.25m, moving her up to ninth on the program's all-time list. Ayanna King set a personal best in the 100 with a time of 12.52, good for fourth on the UMO all-time list.

Paulena Kremling (2:24.68) and Shona Blades (2:25.15) both set personal bests in 800m. The two are fourth and sixth, respectively, among the top-10 times in UMO history.

Shania Riffle set two personal bests -- 18.09 in the 100 and 1.55 meters in the high jump, which equaled the school record. Danielle Heymach threw the javelin 28.75 meters, while Nichole Poppe posted a distance of 28.36 in the same event.

The Trojans return to action Apr. 22 at the Duke Invitational.

Softball

FRANKLIN SPRINGS, Ga. -- Madison Johnston and Julie Hodges combined for a four-hit shutout as University of Mount Olive defeated Emmanuel College, 4-0, in game one of their Conference Carolinas doubleheader Sunday afternoon.

Johnston (15-7) permitted four hits and posted three strikeouts in six innings inside the circle. Hodges earned her second save with one inning of scoreless relief.

Caitlin Ewers batted 2-for-3 with an RBI. Savannah Becker (two RBI), Kristin Power and Brooke Kamphuis collected one hit apiece. Kayla Allen drove in a run.

The Lions claimed the nightcap, 8-7, on Madison Fran's walk-off RBI single in the bottom of the eighth inning.

Kelsey Akers slugged a home run -- her only hit of the game -- for the Trojans. Kayla Allen (RBI) and Kamphuis (RBI) finished with two hits apiece. Becker, Anna Ingram, Jazmin Montgomery (RBI) and Power (RBI) each contributed one hit.

Power, Kamphuis and Charlene Thompson each stole a base.

Hodges (10-6) started inside the circle and took the loss. Caitlin Ewers worked 21/3 innings, while Kylie Ward was credited with one-third of an inning. The trio combined to throw 76 strikes.

Mount Olive (28-18 overall, 14-6 CC) concludes its six-game road swing Tuesday at archrival Barton College.

Golf

GREENSBORO -- University of Mount Olive senior Julie Loennechen earned first-team all-Conference Conference honors for the fourth consecutive year, and Rosewood alum Nick Adams collected first-team all-CC honors on the men's side as the 2016 Conference Carolinas golf championships teed off Sunday afternoon.

Paul Guridi was named second-team all-CC, while Julia Kaeding received third-team all-CC accolades.

Chip Spiron was named the league's coach-of-the-year.

On the men's side, Brady Hollenbacher ended up with second-team all-CC accolades. Adams and Hollenbacher haved helped UMO seize fourth-place in team competition after opening-round play of the season-ending conference tournament.
