Pate, Brogden each throw no-hitter; N. Duplin wins Duplin County Easter Invitational

BEULAVILLE -- North Duplin's pitching staff threw back-to-back no-hitters and claimed the 2016 Duplin County Easter Invitiational softball championship.
Haley Brogden retired 10 James Kenan batters in a 19-0, mercy-rule victory on opening day of the four-team tournament hosted by East Duplin High School. She did not walk a batter.
Brogden delivered a three-hit outing at the plate. Rylee Pate tripled during her lone official at-bat.
Pate threw a complete-game, 16-strikeout no-hitter in the finals during a 9-0 triumph over East Duplin.
Brogden (four RBI), Pate and Mikayla Koch provided two hits apiece.
The Rebels (8-1 overall) return to action Tuesday at Princeton.
