CALYPSO -- Rylee Pate tossed a perfect game as defending state 1-A champion North Duplin dispatched Rosewood, 16-0, in Carolina 1-A Conference action Tuesday evening.

Pate recorded 15 strikeouts and slapped a home run for the Rebels, who improved to 6-1 overall and 3-0 in conference play this season. Pate also drove in three runs.

"Hat's off to Rylee. She pitched as well as I have ever seen her pitch -- better than many pitchers I have been around in a while," RHS head coach Shay Campbell said. "We have a lot of work to do. We knew we were going to face a great team, but I am disappointed that we never put the ball in play on offense and the defensive errors killed us.

"We will continue to improve, but we are going to have to step it up on both sides of the ball."

The Rebels broke the game open with 10 third-inning runs.

Haley Brogden batted 2-for-3 with three RBI. Taylor Jones contributed three hits, including two doubles. Natalie Ramirez doubled in three at-bats and Haley Thurston went 2-for-3.

Rosewood yielded 16 runs on eight hits and seven costly defensive errors. Kaitlyn Kincaid, who posted two strikeouts, started inside the pitcher's circle. Reliever Hailey Weeks provided two-hit, one-strikeout relief.
