MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. -- University of Mount Olive shattered three school records and recorded two NCAA provisional qualifier marks during the Shamrock Invitational contested at Coastal Carolina University.
Jonno Engelking became the Trojans' new record holder in the javelin with a toss of 60.97 meters -- more than 71/2 meters better than the previous mark set in 2010. Engelking's throw surpassed the provisional qualifying standard set by the NCAA.
Nick Greyno, the reigning Conference Carolinas field athlete-of-the-week, broke his own school record in the discus with a mark of 44.90 meters. He surpassed his previous best established one week earlier at the Seahawk Invitational.
Guillermo Rendon displayed his speed in the 100-meter dash with a time of 10.81 seconds and broke the old UMO record that was set in 2009. Teammate Jonathan Dahlke finished below the provisional qualifying time in the steeplechase with a 9-minute, 2.12-second performance.
Dahlke defeated his nearest competitor by 23 seconds.
The Trojans return to action Saturday in the Raleigh Relays at N.C. State.
