Trojans' Styles matches career high in season-ending loss

GAFFNEY, S.C. -- Ni'Ya Styles drained seven 3-pointers and matched her career high with 26 points, but the University of Mount Olive's bid to reach its fourth consecutive Conference Carolinas women's basketball tournament final ended with a 74-70 loss to King (Tenn.) on Thursday evening.
Styles tied Joneiqua Gary (2013-14) and Meaghan Vanderhorst (2006-07) for the second-highest, single-game 3-point total in school history. Hope Joseph holds the program record (9) that she set during the 2000-01 season.
Felicity Havens posted a double-double -- 18 points, 12 rebounds. Aerial Johnson, the first UMO women's basketball player to average a double-double in back-to-back years, came within two points of registered her 12 double-double of the season.
Shy'Lia Buie dished out a game-high seven assists.
Neither team led by more than eight points in the contest, which had 11 ties and seven lead changes.
Ashley Albertson drained two free throws with 18 seconds left and pushed the Tornado into Saturday's championship game against nationally-ranked and unbeaten Limestone.
UMO finished the season 19-11 overall.
Softball
MOUNT OLIVE -- Madison Johnston tossed a one-hitter inside the pitcher's circle and Madison Stewart drove in the lone run during a 1-0 triumph over Conference Carolinas foe Pfeiffer U on Thursday afternoon.
Pfeiffer took game two, 6-2.
Johnston (1-0) logged six strikeouts in a complete-game effort.
Stewart finished the game with two hits.
The Falcons grabbed an early 2-0 lead in the nightcap, only to see the Trojan women battled to a 2-2 tie. Pfeiffer posted four sixth-inning runs, sparked by Anna Lauren Barrott who knocked in the go-ahead run.
