Rosewood boys drain nine 3-pointers against Princeton

Binary opposites.

One glance at the official scorebook from Tuesday night's Carolinas 1-A Conference varsity boys' tilt between Princeton and Rosewood confirmed the concept in startling fashion.

The Bulldogs scored in bursts, but Rosewood overwhelmed their effort with nine 3-pointers during a 71-45 victory Tuesday evening.

"I thought in the first half, we played pretty well in man-to-man," Rosewood coach Daniel Mitchell said. "We gave up a couple of offensive rebounds, but I thought we were solid."

Ditto for Zack Barnes.

The senior guard caught fire early, scoring from multiple spots on the floor in the opening minutes. He navigated the Eagles' offensive sets with ease and capped a 10-0 first-quarter run by draining a 3-pointer as the clock expired.

Barnes finished with a game-high 20 points.

Rosewood was a model of efficiency, steadily increasing their working margin in each of the final three periods.

"We (in the second half) did a good job of passing the ball tonight, but the key was making open shots," Mitchell said, "and in the past couple of games, we've struggled a little bit."

Not on this night.

In total, nine different Eagles entered into the scoring column. Noah Grantham registered 17 points. Ethan Chapin chipped in 12 points, including three 3-pointers, and pulled down three rebounds.

Ellis led the Bulldogs with 16 points, Forward Austin Sullivan contributed 10 points and six rebounds. Grey McCoy scored six points.

Rosewood (5-10 overall, 3-4 CC) is scheduled to play Hobbton on Friday, while Princeton (1-16, 1-6) plays host to James Kenan.
