Eastern Wayne's basketball team guarded the inside lane.
New Bern shooters formulated a plan on the 3-point line.
The Bears' plan worked in an 83-77 win in Eastern Carolina 3-A/4-A Conference play Thursday evening.
The Warriors led 57-54 after three quarters.
NB's Camden Hughes threw up a 3-pointer from the corner and got fouled as he missed the shot. Hughes sank all three free throws.
Eastern Wayne senior Coriante Foye drove to the basket, drew a foul and made both free throws. Senior KK Best followed with a drive of his own and the Warriors trailed the Bears by one point.
Hughes swished another 3-pointer.
Warriors senior Ethan Molloy sank two free throws, and Molloy assisted Best with a field. The Bears' Tae Ellis shot a 3-point dagger, which put his team ahead by five points.
Best assisted Jeremiah Miller on a 3-pointer, but New Bern pulled away for its second ECC win in a three-day stretch. Ellis ended the game with 36 points, and Hughes made four 3s and had 21 points.
Best led the Warriors with 15 points and was 7 of 8 from the free throw line. Foye ended the game with 10 points, and junior Eric Agee had 13 points. Junior Yeonte Royall had eight points and was 6 of 6 from the free throw line.
The Warriors (0-4 overall, 0-2 ECC) visit county rival Goldsboro tonight.
