Girls' basketball

North Duplin 56, Lejeune 52

* CALYPSO -- Rylee Pate poured in a career- and season-high 24 points as North Duplin turned back Lejeune, 56-52, in non-conference action Wednesday evening.

The Rebels snapped a four-game losing streak.

Courtney Brock added 19 points for North Duplin, which outscored the Devilpups 23-13 in the final quarter. Shaily McCarty contributed eight points.

Alyssa Santos (three points) and Samantha Frolich (two) also scratched in the scorebook.

North Duplin (1-4 overall) entertains Lakewood today.

Rosewood 69, Hobbton 30

* Lexi Mercer posted a double-double -- 21 points, 15 rebounds -- during Rosewood's 69-30 thrashing of Hobbton in the Carolina 1-A Conference opener for both teams.

Mercer also dished out four assists and recorded five steals for the Eagles, who have won 28 of their last 29 regular-season conference games.

Jala Holloman contributed 16 points, five steals and three assists. Alyssa Garrison recorded 11 points and four rebounds. Hannah Daniels supplied nine points, while Payton Lane chipped in eight points.

Rosewood (4-2 overall) faces James Kenan today.

Boys' basketball

North Duplin 50, Lejeune 44

* CALYPSO -- Luke Britt pumped in 15 points as North Duplin edged Lejeune, 50-44, in non-conference play Wednesday evening.

Malik Cobb knocked down 12 points. Travaye Darden collected seven points, while JP Payton chipped in six. Dexter Morrisey and Tarrion Addison contributed three points apiece.

Chase King and Schmid Romeus combined for four points.

The Rebels (2-3 overall) play host to Carolina 1-A Conference foe Lakewood today.

Wrestling

Warriors start ECC play

* Eastern Wayne launched its Eastern Carolina 3-A/4-A Conference season with a tri-meet sweep of J.H. Rose (48-36) and South Central (46-29) on Tuesday evening.

The Warriors collected 16 individual victories.

Mario Harper, Colby Miller, Equan Tune, Cainen Miller, Ian Gutierrez and Dilissus Council each went 2-0. Tune pinned Rose's Daveon Green in eight seconds.

Ryshon Rodwell, Chris Barbour, Johnathan Harris and Cameron Martin earned one win apiece.
