PREPS DIGEST: JV, middle schools

• Girls' basketball: Princeton 39, Charles B. Aycock 30 -- Jordan Benson torched the nets for a game-high 23 points, dished out three assists and picked up five steals in Princeton's home win on Monday afternoon. Maddie Adkins posted 12 points, passed out three assists and blocked three shots. Takira Cummings pulled down nine rebounds and blocked three shots. Kania Slocum emerged as the Golden Falcons' top scorer with 11 points. Morgan Casey added eight points, while Darilyn Lancaster knocked down five points. Princeton led 13-0 after the first quarter. The Bulldogs (1-4 overall) ended a season-opening, four-game skid and continue play Thursday at Corinth-Holders. Aycock fell to 5-3 overall this season.

• Girls' basketball: Wayne Country Day 40, Wayne Christian 7 -- Langley Barnes tallied a game-high 13 points and Lexi Jeffreys added nine in the Chargers' victory. Brianna Verme led Wayne Christian with four points. WCDS (6-0 overall) travels to Neuse Christian on Jan. 5, 2016.

Middle schools

• Girls' basketball: Norwayne 39, Mount Olive 9 -- Colleen Jones and Trinayah Harris scored 10 and eight points, respectively, during the Cobras' first win of the season. Norwayne (1-2 overall) entertains Greenwood on Wednesday and plays host to Brogden on Thursday.

• Girls' basketball: Dillard 51, Eastern Wayne 16 -- Ania Sands dished out 12 assists in Dillard's victory on Monday afternoon. Zeanya Jones emerged the Tigers' top scorer with 17 points, followed by Ashonti Johnson with 12 and Dyamond George with 10. Dillard (5-0 overall) plays host to Rosewood on Thursday.

• Boys' basketball: Grantham 25, Spring Creek 23 -- Tayvon Callahan led the Bulldogs' offense with eight points. Chase Abasalao and Tanner Brock provided five and four points, respectively. The Gators' Ranik Evans scored six points and teammate Jaylen Garner had five points. Grantham improved to 2-2 overall this season.

• Boys' basketball: Rosewood 38, Wayne School of Engineering 16 -- Logan Price paced the Eagles' attack with seven points. Townsend Tripple and Trent Lancaster tallied six points apiece. Davien Thompson chipped in five points. The Eagles (3-2 overall) visit Dillard on Thursday.

• Girls' basketball: Rosewood 45, Wayne School of Engineering 12 -- Arzhane Dozier and Rylee Myers each recorded 12 points for the Eagles. Kaitlyn Smith collected nine points.

• Boys' basketball: Wayne Country Day 37, Wayne Christian 35 -- Nehemiya Shaw dropped in 16 points as the Chargers snapped a season-opening, four-game skid. Joey Democko and Cam Gerrard contributed six points apiece. WCDS (1-4 overall) is the guest of Neuse Christian on Jan. 5, 2016.

• Girls basketball: Greenwood 48, Brogden 12 -- Stats were not available.
