BETHEL -- One week after a not-so-pleasing performance in a tri-meet at Princeton, the Charles B. Aycock matmen competed with a chip on their shoulder during matches against perennial powerhouses North Pitt and Jacksonville White Oak.
Aycock handed North Pitt a 42-35 loss and turned back White Oak 51-30.
"The team has been focused on not being pinned and never quitting during a match," Golden Falcons head coach RJ Allen said. "If we are going to give up points, it's better to give up three instead of six. That is what happened tonight."
The Golden Falcons lost a total of 14 individual bouts, but surrendered just eight pins.
"What a huge improvement over last week," Allen said.
Jaret Paynter, Brandon Washington, Austin Doyle, Chris Parks, Hayden Gurley, Tyler Marquard and Josh Wallace each emerged victorious against North Pitt. Doyle, Parks, Nicholas Smith, Gurley, Marquard, Zach Creel, Wallace, James Reser and Paynter each earned a win against White Oak.
"We still have work to do," Allen said. "We do not want to give up any pins and we are getting better. (Am) very proud of the team tonight."
Aycock returns to action Saturday at the Grant Wilder Invitational, which is hosted by Rocky Mount.
