GREENVILLE -- Quarterback Quentin Carlton accounted for Southern Wayne's lone touchdown in a 57-6 loss to Eastern Carolina 3-A/4-A Conference foe J.H. Rose on Friday evening.
Carlton scored on a 2-yard scamper in the fourth quarter. He copleted three passes -- all to Manny Walker for 68 yards.
The Rampants' defense held the Saints to 110 yards of total offense.
"As a team we came out flat and Rose took advantage," Saints head coach David Lee said. "They had numerous big plays in the first quarter and we fell behind by a wide margin. After halftime, I thought our kids came out with a better approach and were a lot more aggressive. It showed on offense and defense.
"We know that we can play better than our showing tonight, so we will put this one behind us and get ready for a good D.H. Conley team next week."
Southern Wayne (0-7 overall, 0-3 ECC) entertains the ECC co-leading Vikings (5-2, 2-0) on Friday. Kickoff is 7 p.m. at the Doyle Whitfield Athletic Complex.
