• Rosewood built a three-touchdown advantage and upset No. 1-ranked James Kenan, 37-35, on "Red" Al-montaser's 45-yard field goal as time expired Thursday evening.
The Eagles beat the Tigers for the first time since 1999 and earned just their second victory in the series, which JK leads 6-2.
Rosewood has matched its best start since 2003 when it won five of its first seven games and began 2-0 against Carolina 1-A Conference opposition.
But the euphoria is over.
The Eagles must prepare for Lakewood, which grinded out a come-from-behind 21-7 victory over North Duplin.
And the Rebels are the next opponents for the Tigers, who will play a Duplin County team for the third time this season.
"Games like this, you're going to find out how tough they are," JK head coach Ken Avent Jr. said after the Rosewood loss. "You can find out what character the guys got when it comes to practice on Monday. Everybody should be ready to roll after a win. We're going to find out who's ready to roll after a loss."
