Bulldogs' Sullivan takes 1st in Carolina 1A XC meet

PRINCETON -- Princeton's Austin Sullivan emerged as the top boys' individual finisher and Rosewood edged Hobbton 50-52 to win a Carolina 1-A Conference meet contested at Princeton Middle School.
Sullivan ran the 5k course in 18 minutes, 40 seconds - nearly two minutes faster than runner-up LJ Faircloth of Lakewood. Teammates Brent Hurst (20:43) and Jose Moreno (21:22) posted third- and sixth-place times, respectively.
Rosewood senior Dalton Farmer ended up fourth in 21:03. Fellow Eagles Owen Blevins (21:35), Kody Silknitter (22:05) and Cameron Smith (22:06) secured the ninth, 10th and 11th positions. Teammate Matt Parsons crossed the line 16th in 22:58 to complete the team's scoring.
Spring Creek's top five were Levi Miller (7th, 21:30), Sawyer Smith (18th, 23:43), Matt Dupuy (22nd, 24:39), Casey Whitfield (26th, 25:32) and Xavier Newsome (28th, 25:39).
Ovidio Rojas led North Duplin with a 23rd-place time of 24:40.
Princeton collected 64 points. Lakewood (77 points) and Spring Creek (99) finished fourth and fifth, respectively.
On the girls' side, the Rebels' Haley Thurston earned first place in 23:03. Teammate Kandy Rangel crossed the line third in 25:40.
Rosewood's Elaina Amy captured fourth in 26:21. Rebecca Fitzmaurice (15th, 30:36), Jessica Conger (20th, 32:12), Catherine Moore (24th, 33:44) and Angela Puzzo (40th, 40:06) rounded out the Eagles' team score.
Princeton's Altheia Balageo (27:12) and Chelsea Hawley (27:40) took sixth and seventh, respectively. Teammates Amber Johnson (28:48) and Elizabeth Cole (30:04) each recorded a top-14 time.
Spring Creek's lone competitor, Veronica Ortiz, claimed 30th overall in 36:36.
Hobbton won the meet with 34 points, followed by North Duplin with 42, Rosewood (69) and Lakewood (85).
