Area runners compete in annual Bo Run

GREENVILLE -- Eastern Wayne's Fiona Pedrick finished fourth overall individually during the Girls' 5k Championship portion of the Bo Run contested at Boyd Lee Park on Saturday.
Pedrick ran the muddy course in 19 minutes, 34.28 seconds. Teammates Colleen Christie (31:10.14) and Emily Ames (31:11.54) ended up 97th and 98th.
Charles B. Aycock's Mackenzie Stewart (24:15.35) took 39th individually during the 5k Invitational portion of the meet.
On the boys' side, the Golden Falcons' Joseph Mooneyham covered the 5k Championship course in 17:35.16. Teammates Deshawn Owens (19:03.42) and Hunter Crane (19:12.51) crossed the finish line 65th and 68th, respectively.
Mitch Castorena (19:37.06) placed 80th. Cameron Sims (20:07.61) and Jonathan Bowers (21:01.97) completed the race in 97th and 118th, respectively.
The Golden Falcons placed 12th among 19 teams. Head coach Butch Bennett said six runners recorded personal bests. The team missed starter John Parrish, who did not participate due to an illness.
Aycock's Keenan Smith (142nd, 23:38.35) and Ellis Berry (163rd, 25:15.93) raced in the 5k Invitational.
Freshman Rudy Spears led Eastern Wayne with a 73rd-place effort of 19:18.74. Zack Childers (111th, 20:40.34), Noah Bernard (116th, 20:57.25) and Yohan Yan (132nd, 25:06.43) also participated for the Warriors.
A total of 536 runners competed on the day.
