County teams duel on Lane Tree Golf Club links

Rosewood senior Lindsey Burton secured medalist honors with a 3-over par 39 and Charles B. Aycock emerged the winning team during a non-conference meet contested at Lane Tree Golf Club on Tuesday afternoon.

Wayne Christian served as the host team.

Abby Sauls led the Golden Falcons' effort with a 44. Teammates Anna Williams and Savannah Strickland carded nine-hole rounds of 55 and 60, respectively. Aycock finished one stroke lower than Rosewood.

"I was OK with how we played today," Golden Falcons head coach Roger Rhodes said. "Lindsey hit some putts that she had to make. She rolled one off the fringe and rolled it into the middle of the cup."

North Johnston ended up third at 165. Goldsboro placed fourth at 176, followed by Wayne Christian (179) and Princeton (185).

Helen Keck paced Goldsboro with a 57. Ashley Smith carded a 59. Rylie Hales and Tracy Smith each posted a 60. Scarlett Casey contributed a 63.

Cassidy Davis and Grace Buddin turned in identical nine-hole scores of 59 for Wayne Christian. Teammate Laura Kim completed the team scoring with a 61. Brianna Verme and Kesley Sanders shot 62 and 63, respectively.4

The Golden Falcons (26-5 overall) return to action next Monday for an Eastern Carolina 3-A/4-A Conference match at Ayden Country Club.
