Jones paces WCDS girls in cross country meet

Eighth-grader Janae Jones emerged as the top individual female runner and helped Wayne Country Day claim a four-team meet contested on its home course Monday afternoon.
Jones ran the 5k trek in 23 minutes, 24 seconds -- six seconds faster than runner-up Murphy Fisher of Christ Covenant. Abby Skinner (23:36) and Hayden Neilsen (24:23) crossed the line third and fourth, respectively, to seal the Chargers' victory.
Gray Young (25:39), Kat Hamilton (26:56), Jasmine Jones (27:55), Becca Edmondson (30:55), Hinot Shaw (31:36) and Kate Nielsen (44:49) also competed for Wayne Country Day.
The Chargers had 8 points, followed by Wilson Christian (18) and Christ Covenant (19).
On the boys' side, Zander Pittman (20:48) and Case Kermode (21:22) crossed the finish line in fourth and sixth, respectively, for Wayne Country Day. Teammate Suraj Patel ended up 10th in 22:00.
Faith Christian's Harrison Freeman turned in a seventh-place time of 21:30. The Conquerors' next-highest finishers were Hayden Voeller and Cristian Sevallos who shared 24th in 26:21.
Wilson Christian won the team portion with six points.
