Rouse tosses 3-hitter, Gators advance to east 1A semifinals

DURHAM -- Spring Creek's Will Rouse surrendered a first-inning home run, but shut down Voyager Academy the rest of the way during a 4-1 win in the third round of the N.C. High School Athletic Association Class 1-A baseball playoffs Tuesday.
Rouse gave up three hits, walked one batter and had six strikeouts at Southern High School.
The Gators' Chad Spurgeon tripled in a two-hit, two-RBI outing. Logan Miller provided two hits. Trey Hammonds contributed a hit.
Fifth-seeded Spring Creek (16-6 overall) travels to defending state champion Whiteville on Friday. The Wolfpack (23-4) and Gators have combined for five postseason shutouts.
First pitch is 7 p.m.
