Softball

North Lenoir 12, Southern Wayne 1

* Kaci Letchworth batted 5-for-5 and doubled twice as North Lenoir defeated Southern Wayne, 12-1, in non-conference action Thursday afternoon.

It was the regular-season finale for the Saints.

Megan Lanier and Madison Allen provided four hits apiece. Kelsie Stocks and Allison Montague each had two hits. Janna Moore went 1-for-4.

Kaci Letchworth earned the pitching win.

Kelsey Hayes paced Southern Wayne's offense with four hits. Alyssa Tart had two hits. Rachel Grady, Haley Warren and Nicole Allen each provided one hit.

Warren took the mound loss.

The Hawks conclude regular-season play today at Eastern Carolina 2-A Conference foe Ayden-Grifton.

NCISAA playoffs

Game times, seedings

* Due to possible inclement weather on Friday, athletics directors Michael Taylor at Wayne Country Day and Roger Longwell at Wayne Christian announced their baseball teams will play today in the N.C. Independent Schools Athletic Association 1-A playoffs.

WCDS travels to Lawrence Academy, while Wayne Christian (12-6 overall) entertains Kerr-Vance Academy.

Each game begins at 4:30 p.m.

In girls' soccer, at-large entrant WCDS earned a No. 6 seed and will play at home Saturday against Lee Christian. Kickoff is 5:30 p.m.

The WCDS and Wayne Christian boys' golf teams each received bids to the NCISAA championships. The two-day, 36-hole tournament will be played next Monday and Tuesday at Midpines.

A state semifinalist last season, the WCDS boys' tennis team is home next Tuesday against Lawrence Academy. First serve is 4 p.m. on the Wayne Community College tennis courts.

Girls' soccer

Princeton 8, Lakewood 0

* Jordan Johnson, Peyton Whitley and Altheia Balageo punched in two goals apiece during Princeton's 8-0 triumph over James Kenan on the Carolina 1-A Conference scene.

Kassandra Velasquez and Madison Adkins each had one goal. Chelsea Hawley dished out a career-high and single-game school record seven assists.

Princeton (13-3-0 overall, 9-2-0 CC) entertains Rosewood today. Kickoff has been moved up to 4:30 p.m.

JV

* Baseball: C.B. Aycock 5, New Bern 2 -- Jordan Gay earned the save on the bump and the Golden Falcons clinched a share of the Eastern Carolina 3-A/4-A Conference regular-season championship Wednesday afternoon. Cody Whaley started and retired eight New Bern batters on strikeouts. He surrendered no earned runs, walked two and yielded five hits in a six-inning stint. Chris Turner and Carson Smitherman contributed RBI singles. Nick Aycock and Luke Frederick also helped Aycock's offensive attack. Aycock concluded the year 17-5 overall and 9-3 against ECC opposition.

Middle schools

* Girls' soccer: Dillard 4, Rosewood 1 -- McKayla Roberts knocked in two goals for Dillard, which concluded its season with a school-best 6-4-2 record on Thursday afternoon. Shamya Ford and TaiRonnica Davis supplied one goal apiece.
