NO CLOUT ... YET

* Debbie Yow told the story of hiring Wes Moore, who had previously coached at N.C. State before taking the head job at Chattanooga.

"Wes asked 'do you remember me?'" Yow said. "It's like he thought being here in the past was going to help him get the job. Well it didn't. But what did help him get the job is that he is one of the all-time winningest girls' college basketball coaches in history."

RECRUITING TRAIL

* When Moore called his wife to explain he would apply for the job at N.C. State, he got home and his wife had already put their house on the market.

"Thanks Debbie Yow for hiring me or else I'd be homeless," Moore said. "We had a player in eighth grade commit to play for us earlier this year. When we go on visits now, we bring Pampers, formula, all of that stuff,"

Moore said how recruiting starts earlier and earlier every year for kids.

HIRING DOEREN

Yow took a private-leased plane to meet with head football coach Doeren privately and court him for hire. Doeren's bus broke down coming back from the MAC championship game and Yow actually beat him back to his house.

"I knew he was going to have no sleep. I didn't think was going to be good for us," Yow said.

But Doeren had already done his research and knew he wanted the N.C. State job. He and his family went back on the plane with Yow when a stranger walked onto the plane with them as well.

"Who's this?" Yow asked.

"This is Joe, he's coming back with us to be director of football operations. We're behind and we've got a lot of work to do so we'll get started right away," Doeren responded

Yow explained that the school couldn't pay him yet.

"Don't worry, he'll work for free," Doeren said.

And he did.

Yow called Doeren one of the hottest coaching commodities in the country after what he did at Northern Illinois.

"Somebody call my wife and tell her I'm one of the hottest coaches in the country," Doeren quipped. "I'm on the road all week and I'll be coming home to some open arms. And I'm smart. How about that?"

WOLFPACK "JOKER"

* Doeren gave his speech wearing a Wilber's T-shirt. He walked out of the room and joked he could serve a few tables and get some tips. He later walked back into the room waving a $20 bill someone gave him.

"What am I going to say to you people? 35-7 at UNC that's pretty good right? Yeah, we took them to school. I hear they don't like to go to school, but we took them to school that day," he said.

NEED SOME HELP WITH "UNDERGEAR"

* Gottfried said after getting off a plane in Asheville to start the RV road trip: "Wes asked us if he could borrow a pair of underwear. So, we've gotten pretty close."

TRANSFER RATES

* Gottfried said the reason transfer rates are so high stem to AAU teams where kids often switch teams because they aren't the number one option. So when they get to college, they think they have to be the guy or they can just transfer.
