WINTERVILLE -- Charles B. Aycock rode its dominant pitching to 4-2 win over Eastern Carolina 3-A/4-A Conference foe South Central on Tuesday evening.
Kyle Davis got the start and gave up two earned runs on four hits in 32/3 innings. Bobby Hampton provided 31/3 innings of two-hit relief. The duo combined to walk only one batter.
"It's the same story for us that it's been all year," Aycock coach Charles Davis said. "We walked one batter. We played good defense behind our pitchers and that's been the key. At the high school level if you don't walk guys and you play good defense, you put yourself in a position to win."
Ashton McGee and Hampton each had two hits to lead the offense. Hampton had an RBI double. Hank Smitherman and Trent Herndon each drove in a run with a base hit. Jake Naughton added a double to round out the offense.
Aycock (15-4 overall, 7-3 ECC) plays host to archrival Eastern Wayne on Friday.
