CALYPSO -- Sophomore left-hander Rylee Pate tossed a complete-game shutout as North Duplin upended defending Carolina 1-A Conference champion Princeton, 3-0, on Monday evening.
Pate limited the Bulldogs to two hits, logged 10 strikeouts and didn't issue a walk. Offensively, she doubled in three official at-bats.
Shaily McCarty doubled twice. Haley Brogden (RBI), Brooke Cottle (two RBI), Mikayla Kock and Courtney Brock provided one hit apiece.
Meredith College signee Charley Cox and Taylor Carroll each had one hit for Princeton, which suffered its first conference defeat since sharing the 2012 regular-season title with archrival Princeton.
Haley Wood allowed three runs on seven hits and retired six North Duplin batters on strikeouts.
The Rebels (7-1-1 overall, 5-0 CC) entertain Lakewood today.
