Strickland, Barnes lead WCDS past reigning 1A state champ

John Strickland and Drew Barnes staged a fifth-inning uprising as Wayne Country Day defeated reigning independent 1-A state champion Freedom Christian, 7-4, on Friday afternoon.
Strickland's solo home run and Barnes' two-RBI double broke a 4-4 tie.
"This was a good team," WCDS head coach Michael Taylor said. "We had two sac flies during the game and every time Freedom plated a run, we answered right back.
"John was great on the bump all night and the defense played great behnd him."
Strickland surrendered four runs (all earned) on five hits and four walks. He logged five strikeouts in a complete-game effort.
Mitch Turnage (home run, two RBI), Jacob Magera and Strickland cranked out two hits apiece offensively. Drew Barnes (RBI), Parker Smith, Amane Godo and Patrick each contributed one hit.
Zach Barfield had an RBI.
The Chargers (8-5 overall) visit Oakwood on Tuesday.
