Preps digest: JV, middle school news

JV
* Baseball: Charles B. Aycock 1, New Bern 0 -- Trey Jordan threw a one-hit shutout and struck out two New Berns in an Eastern Carolina 3-A/4-A Conference game against New Bern on Thursday afternoon. Nolan Harrell's sacrifice fly to score Carson Smitherman gave Jordan the only cushion he would need. Luke Frederick and Smitherman had the only hits for Aycock.
Middle schools
* Girls' Soccer: Greenwood 3, Mount Olive 1 -- Alana Kazar, Aaliyah Mabry and Yuka Akiyama each scored one goal in Greenwood's win. Taniyah Oates had two assists. Greenwood improved to 4-1 and will travel to Spring Creek on Tuesday.
* Girls' Soccer: Dillard 2, Eastern Wayne 0 -- Tia'Ronnica Davis punched in both goals during Dillard's shutout victory over the Warriors. McKayla Roberts and T'Ziah Kelly each had one assist for Dillard, who improved to 5-2-1 overall. Dillard hosts Norwayne on Monday.
* Softball: Wayne School of Engineering 11, Spring Creek 1 -- Marcy Taylor held Spring Creek to just one run during the Titans' mercy-rule win. Abby Allen, Dakota Jones, Nikki Olmstead, Riley Howell and Taylor each had two hits for WSE. Lexi Crouse chipped in a base knock as well. Wayne School of Engineering improved to 5-1 overall and hosts Mount Olive on Monday.
* Girls' Soccer: Norwayne 9, Rosewood 0 -- Tanner Griffin, Hannah Spiers and Colleen Jones each scored twice, as Norwayne shutout Rosewood 9-0 to remain undefeated. Lauren Smith, Morgan Casey and Morgan Quinn each contributed a goal. Collena Zacharzuk had an assist. Lauren Smith and Taylor Smith each added two assists. Goalkeeper McKenzie Norris had two saves. Norwayne is 7-0 overall and travels to Dillard on Monday.
Correction
In Wednesday's edition of the News-Argus, Rosewood's relief pitcher was misidentified. Jonathan Peacock threw two innings and teammate Boone Moody pitched the final inning.
