Boys' tennis

Rosewood 7, Spring Creek 1

* SEVEN SPRINGS -- Rosewood earned five singles points and handed Spring Creek a 7-1 loss on a dreary Wednesday afternoon.

Second-seeded Jeremy Lintner, third-seeded Jake Smith, fourth-seeded Lucas Parrish, fifth-seeded Chase Bartlett and sixth-seeded Jared Bradley each emerged victorious in straight-set fashion. Parrish and Bradley each shut out their respective opponent.

Spring Creek's Carter Cipiti prevailed at No. 1 singles.

The Eagles' tandems of Smith-Parrish and Bartlett-Bradley won at Nos. 2 and 3 doubles, respectively. The No. 1 doubles match was not completed.

Boys' golf

Hall fires 74

* Goldsboro's Matt Hall shot an even-par 36 on the back nine and claimed medalist honors with a 74 during a three-team, non-conference meet at Goldsboro Municipal Golf Course on Wednesday.

Charles B. Aycock edged the host Cougars, 327-336, in team competition. Eastern Wayne shot a 374. Blake Bartlett paced CBA with a 77, followed by Bryce Jones (80), Mitchell Langston (84) and Alex Weaver (86).

Luke McAlduff and Ty West complimented Hall with 18-hole rounds of 80 and 87, respectively. Cameron Anderson rounded out the Cougars' four-player total with a 95.

Drew Grady led Eastern Wayne with a 79. Austin Uzzell and Justin Whaley each shot a 98, while Nathan Coker finished with a 99.

Boys' track

C.B. Aycock takes third

* GREENVILLE -- Charles B. Aycock had three individual first-place finishes and took third overall during a four-team Eastern Carolina 3-A/4-A Conference meet ran at J.H. Rose on Wednesday.

Senior TJ Morrow won the 400-meter dash. Alton Best had the top throw in discus competition and distance specialist Joseph Mooneyham won the 3,200-meter run.

Southern Wayne ended up fourth, but no individual performers were submitted to the News-Argus.

Baseball

Ayden-Grifton 10, Goldsboro 0

* Goldsboro dropped a 10-0 decision to Eastern Carolina 2-A Conference foe Ayden-Grifton on Thursday.

Additional details were not available.

Girls' soccer

Southern Wayne 9,

North Lenoir 0

* DUDLEY -- Dixie Ramirez scored eight goals and Southern Wayne trounced North Lenoir 9-0 via the mercy rule on Wednesday evening.

Sarah Joyner had the other goal for the Saints.

The Saints (6-4-1 overall) entertain C.B. Aycock next Tuesday.

Southern Wayne 3

* DUDLEY -- Megan Mozingo notched a pair of goals as Eastern Wayne sloshed its way past county rival Southern Wayne, 4-3, on the Eastern Carolina 3-A/4-A Conference scene Tuesday evening.

Claire Molloy and Brennan Dove also scored for the Warriors.

Senior Dixie Ramirez punched in two goals for the Saints. Teammate Makayla Tyndall provided the other goal.

Southern Wayne (5-4-1 overall) dropped to 0-4-0 against ECC opposition this season.
