Hey, everyone.
Seems like it was just yesterday when we last talked, just yesterday that some of us still had a chance at winning this bracket challenge. The Elite Eight takes no prisoners, however, and it's safe to say some of us were dealt a fatal blow on Saturday and Sunday afternoon.
Here's a look at how it all went down:
At the bottom of the pile lies Fane Greenfield and Joe Gurley. Both went 1-3 this round. Arizona over Wisconsin was a trendy pick amongst all of our competitors (yours truly included) so it was a nice bonding moment when basically all of us were wrong.
Both Fane and Joe still have dogs in the fight though. Thank goodness for the chalk.
Otherwise, most of us went 2-2 this round.
Shout outs to Bill Clingan and Fred Pierce, who each picked Wisconsin to advance. Either are welcome to come by the office at any time and badger me (animal pun quota met) any time about it. Parker and I both went 2-2 as well, and actually we had the same final four. Considering she picked Coastal Carolina over Wisconsin in the first round, Parker's relevance in the latter rounds is turning into the feel good story of the week/month/year.
Terry Jordan, Fred the Dog and George Whitfield round out the last of our "2-2 guys." Each picked Gonzaga over Duke so that goes to show you what happens when you pick against the "hometown" team. That's the great thing about basketball in the Triangle area. There's always another bandwagon to jump on.
Our top performer of the week was Fred Pierce, who went a very respectable 3-1, which puts him right back in the running for the title belt. Fred or Deacon -- I'm honestly not sure who made the picks at this point -- looks pretty good heading into the final weekend. Just goes to show you that two heads are indeed better than one -- and definitely better than a sports writer.
