FAYETTEVILLE -- Wayne Country Day launched its 2015 Coastal Plains Independent 1-A/2-A Conference campaign with a 12-11 loss to defending N.C. Independent Schools Athletic Association 1-A state champ Freedom Christian on Friday afternoon.

The teams combined for 13 errors and 13 unearned runs.
Parker Smith (RBI), Mitch Turnage (hit), Amane Godo (two RBI), John Strickland (hit), Jacob Magera (two RBI), Jon Bryant (two RBI) and Drew Barnes provided one hit apiece.
Strickland tossed two innings and yielded four runs (two earned) on hits and three walks. Turnage, who took the mound loss, allowed eight runs (three earned) on six hits. He retired three Freedom batters on strikeouts.
The Chargers (3-3 overall, 0-1 CPIC) visits perennial independent powerhouse Lawrence Academy on Tuesday. First pitch is 5 p.m.
