CARY -- Jordy Farthing and Jose Serrano combined for five-hitter as No. 12-ranked University of Mount Olive upended previously-unbeaten Franklin Pierce, 6-5, at the USA National Baseball Training Complex on Tuesday afternoon.
Farthing scattered four hits, retired four Ravens on strikeouts and issued two walks in a seven-inning stint en route to his second mound decision of the season. Serrano logged his first save of 2015 with two innings of one-hit, scoreless relief.
Down 5-4, the Trojans seized control in the eighth inning.
A walk, hit batsman and sacrifice put UMO runners on second and third with one out. The Ravens intentionally walked Kilgore Gailmard to load the bases.
Joe Koehler scored on a wild pitch.
Pinch-hitter Bradley Ragan plated Jason Morozowski with a game-deciding, line-drive single into right field against a drawn-in Ravens defense that had hoped to turn an inning-ending double play.
Serrano retired FP in order on two strikeouts and groundout in the bottom of the eighth. He overcame a two-out double by incuding a game-ending groundout in the Ravens' ninth.
The teams meet again today at Scarborough Field. First pitch is 6 p.m.
