DUDLEY -- Megan Mozingo scored a team-high 13 points and Eastern Wayne improved to 23-0 overall with a 63-46 conquest of county and Eastern Carolina 3-A/4-A Conference rival Southern Wayne on Thursday evening.
The Warriors finished unbeaten in regular-season play for the second time in three seasons.
Mozingo shot of 5 of 11 from the floor, dished out two assists and picked the Saints for three steals. Naheria Hamilton narrowly missed a triple-double with nine points, 12 rebounds and a career-high 11 blocked shots.
Senior Jasmine Covington also flirted with a double-double -- nine points and nine rebounds. Sophomore Treycie Ford contributed nine points, seven rebounds and three blocked shots.
EW had a season-high 16 blocks as a team.
"Tonight, we went back to playing Eastern (Wayne) basketball," said second-year Warriors head coach Phil Gray, whose led 36-20 at halftime. "Everybody did their part tonight, everybody played well."
The Warriors drew an opening-round bye and earned homecourt advantage for the ECC tournament, which begins next week. First-round pairings were announced later this morning.
"At the beginning of the season, we set goals," Gray said. "The girls went out and accomplished the goals. There aren't too many teams in the state or in (school) history that can say they went undefeated (in regular-season play)."
Junior Zaria Atkins emerged as the Saints' offensive leader with a game-high 22 points. Teammates Faith Gurley and Macayla Tyndall scored seven and six points, respectively.
