PRINCETON -- Krystal Yelverton led the way with 21 points as Rosewood rolled to a 73-47 victory over county and Carolina 1-A Conference rival Princeton on Friday night.
The Eagles (10-3 overall, 5-1 Carolina) jumped out to a fast start, scoring 23 points in the first quarter while holding the Bulldogs (4-8, 2-2) to just 10.
Lexi Mercer, Rosewood's go-to scoring option, had relatively quiet night by her standards with 20 points. She sat a portion of the second half after injuring her knee while getting back on defense. Mercer's knee was wrapped in an ice pack after the game, but RHS head coach Rick Grantham said she was fine.
The night belonged to Yelverton though, who picked up the slack with ease. The senior point guard ran the offense flawlessly, recording six rebounds, two assists and one blocked shot to go along with her 21 points.
Grantham raved about his point guard's effort.
"She's the motor," he said. "I told her to stay in control, and she did. I felt like we could drive the ball to the goal better against the box-and-one defense that we saw."
Charley Cox led the way for Princeton with 13 points. Jazmaine McCain was the only other Bulldog in double figures, adding 10 of her own.
"I thought Charley Cox especially was really good," Grantham said. "She's a tremendous kid and a tremendous player for them. She's the heart and soul of that club."
