Boys' Basketball

Princeton 66, Edenton Holmes 64

Mike Wooten earned All-tournament honors as Princeton got its second win of the season with a 66-64 win over Edenton Holmes on Tuesday.

Wooten scored 25 points to lead the Bulldogs and Tanner Woodard chipped in to score 19.

Princeton improved to 2-8 and will travel to Carolina 1-A opponent Hobbton on Friday.

On Monday, Tanner Woodard and Mike Wooten combined for 33 of Princeton's 40 points in a49-40 loss on Monday in the South Creek Christmas tournament.

"Real balanced scoring there," Princeton coach Jedd Davis quipped after his team fell to 1-8.

Princeton trailed 20-6 early and crawled all the way back to trail 43-40 in the fourth with possession but couldn't pull it out.

"We came out in another world of sleep," Davis said. "It's unbelievable."

South Johnston 49, Rosewood 47

* Rosewood lost a close game to South Johnston on Tuesday evening 49-47.

Dennis Mitchell led the Eagles with a 23-point performance, while Zack Barnes added 10.

Rosewood drops to 5-4 and will host Lakewood on Friday.

Goldsboro 63, West Craven 55

* Myron Carmon scored 19 points and Rasheen Artis chipped in 18 on Monday as Goldsboro defeated West Craven by eight points to advance to the tournament finals.

Goldsboro 50, Pamlico County 47

* Rasheen Artis had a team-high 16 points along with eight rebounds and six steals, and Erick Bufkin added 12-8-2 as Goldsboro won a nail-biter against Pamlico County in the Sports Center/Carolina Sports Holiday Classic championship game.

Girls' basketball

Southern Wayne 71, New Bern 62

* Southern Wayne won the Craven County Holiday Hoops Classic on Tuesday with a 71-62 win over New Bern.

Zaria Atkins led all scorers with 37 points and six assists. Cierra Thompson recorded a double-double with 15 points and 18 rebounds. Southern wayne improved to 5-7 and gets back to conference play Friday when it travels to DH Conley.

On Monday, Southern Wayne defeated West Craven in the first round of the Craven County Holiday Hoops Classic 58-53.

Zaria Atkins led the way with 17 points, eight assists and 11 steals. Iyahna Bess scored 10 points and had nine boards.

Eastern Wayne 45, St. Basil Academy 37

* On Monday, Eastern Wayne upended St. Basil Academy 45-37 in their holiday tournament.

Naheria Hamilton led the Warriors with 14 points and grabbed 12 rebounds as she won the tournaments Most Valuable Players. Tianna Christopher chipped in 10 points.

Shontel Monk (three points) and Megan Mozingo (three points) made the all-tournament team and Eastern Wayne remained unbeaten at 11-0.

Edenton Holmes 52, Princeton 43

*Hadyah Bembry led the way for Edenton with 17 points as the Aces defeated Princeton. Kyrah Jackson and Tyasia Martin both added 10 points to hel Edenton Holmes to their second win of the season.

For Princeton, Jazmaine McCain led all scorers with 15 points. She also had nine rebounds and four blocked shots on the night. Jordan Benson added eight points for the Bulldogs, who dropped to 4-6 overall. Princeton plays again on Friday night against Hobbton.

Boy's Wrestling

Rosewood 72, Tarboro 12

*Evan Reiss (160), Kaleb Smith (170), Kaleb Taylor (285), and Garner Beasley (220) were just a handful of the Rosewood wrestlers who won their individual matches as Rosewood defeated Tarboro at a tri-match between Rosewood, Tarboro and Heritage.

Rosewood 56, Heritage 24

*Kaleb Smith (170), Josh Drew (182), Garner Beasley(195), and Rayquon Jones (220) all won their matches as Rosewood defeated Heritage.

Rosewood 64, Princeton 18

*Evan Reiss (160), Kaleb Smith (182), Garner Beasley (195), Kaleb Taylor (285) and Rayquon Jones (220) all won their matches as Rosewood beat Princeton, sweeping all three matches they played.
