Middle schools
* Boys' basketball: Goldsboro Heat 36, Harnett County 9 -- Benson Jones scored 11 points and added seven rebounds and four assists to lift Goldsboro Heat to their first victory of the season over Harnett County on Tuesday. Luke Parks chipped in 10 points. The Heat moved the ball well as a team collecting 10 assists on 15 made field goals. The Heat are 1-5 and travel to Wake Forest on Saturday.
* Boys' basketball: Wayne Country Day 30, Oakwood 20 -- A balanced scoring attacked helped Wayne Country Day upend Oakwood on Tuesday. Joey Democko and Cooper Edmondson each led the Chargers with six points. WCDS improved to 5-2 and travels to Pungo on Thursday.
* Girls' basketball: Dillard 38, Greenwood 13 -- Tyanna Morrison and T'ziah Kelly combined for 36 of Dillard's 38 points a victory over Greenwood. Morrison and Kelly each had 18 points. Taniyah Oates had eight points for Greenwood. Dillard (3-0 overall) travels to Grantham on Thursday.
