Unbeaten Lakewood ousts Spring Creek in 2nd round

SALEMBURG -- No. 17 seed Spring Creek fell victim to No. 1 seed and Carolina 1-A Conference foe Lakewood 25-16, 25-19, 25-22 in the second round of the NCHSAA 1-A state playoffs on Tuesday.
Rachel McCollum had 12 kills and three aces. Sarah Ford had 18 assists and three aces. It was the final match for seniors McCollum and Ford.
Lexie Reyes had six digs for the Gators.
"I am so proud of how much these girls have come together as a team throughout the season and how hard they have fought for each game, and especially the past 2 playoff games," Spring Creek Staci Pence said. "They have developed a strong team relationship and that's what truly counts when it is all said and done."
The Gators ended the year 16-7 overall.
