BOLIVIA -- Charles B. Aycock freshman Abby Sauls is headed to the N.C. High School Athletic Association Class 3-A women's golf championships.
Sauls punched her ticket with an 18-hole round of 101 during the eastern regional contested at Carolina National Golf Club.
"I am so proud of that young'un, I can't hardly stand it," CBA head coach Roger Rhodes said. "Lord have mercy, she did good. The score didn't indicate it, but she did better than some of those who said they were going to do well.
"She shot her average for the season."
Sauls will head down to Longleaf Golf and Country Club for a practice round Sunday. The two-day, 36-hole tournament begins Monday.
Rhodes said he will spend the week fine-tuning Sauls' play on the green. She struggled with her chipping and putting on the Carolina National greens that were "slick," according to Rhodes.
"She won't win a state championship, but I tell you one thing -- she won't get frazzled and razzled," Rhodes said. "She's got what it takes. She's a competitor. It doesn't make any difference who she plays with, she's going to play her game and let them do what they need to do."
