Washington 3, Goldsboro 0
Goldsboro had never seen anything like Washington hitter Adriana Tyson and didn't know how to handle her.
Tyson led Washington to a 25-11, 25-18, 25-8 win over Goldsboro in the first round of NCHSAA 2-A playoffs on Saturday.
It was the last match in the careers of Alexus Davis and Maddie Jara.
"They're a good team," GHS coach TJ Lancaster said. "But I believe South Lenoir is just as good. We just haven't seen a hitter like (Tyson) before. That was the one thing they had going for them."
Davis finished the match with nine kills and six digs. Sophomore Becka Pittard added six kills and seven digs. Courtney Sutton capped the season off with a three-ace performance.
Goldsboro finished the season 12-9.
