Goldsboro came out flat and tight against Eastern Carolina 2-A Conference foe Greene Central, and endured a 22-25, 16-25, 25-18, 18-25 loss that cost the Cougars a postseason berth.
The Cougars (12-8 overall, 4-6 ECC) hope to receive a wild-card spot in the NCHSAA playoffs.
"When you come out flat and tight like we did it's not a good combination," GHS coach TJ Lancaster said. "We just didn't have it last night."
Becka Pittard had 10 kills and 21 digs for the Cougars, while Alexus Davis had six kills and 12 digs. Angelina Nacca and Matti Rose Lyon combined for 16 assists.
