Preps digest: JV, middle schools

JV

* Football: South Central 45, Eastern Wayne 0 -- Malyk Williams led the Warriors defensively with seven tackles in a 45-0 loss to South Central on Thursday. Mikel Wright had five tackles in the secondary. EW hosts New Bern on Thursday at 6:30.

* Football: Northside 36, Goldsboro 12-- Darly Gaddis scored on runs of 27 and 23 yards, but Goldsboro couldn't shut down Northside in a 36-12 loss on Thursday evening. Jacob Owens caught two passes for 56 yards. Goldsboro hosts South Lenoir on Thursday.

* Volleyball: North Duplin 2, Spring Creek 0 -- North Duplin swept Spring Creek in two sets 25-12, 25-21 on Thursday. Stephanie Quintanilla had eight aces and Abbey Pate had eight assists. North Duplin improved to 3-7 overall and 2-6 against conference opponents.

* Volleyball: Greene Central 2, Goldsboro 0 -- Greene Central defeated Goldsboro in two sets 14-25, 15-25 on Thursday evening.

Middle schools

* Volleyball: Norwayne 3, Mount Olive 0 -- Norwayne defeated Mount Olive in an a three-game sweep on Thursday evening.

* Football: Brogden 32, Greenwood 0 -- Kejuan Leary had three sacks defensively and two touchdowns to lead Brogden past Greenwood on Thursday evening.

* Football: Norwayne 32, Grantham 0 -- Josh Gooding had two touchdowns to lead Norwayne past Grantham on Thursday. Cade Re was 4-5 for a touchdown and Devajhea Applewhite ran for a score. Applewhite also took an interception 50 yards for another touchdown. Norwayne will travel to Eastern Wayne on Thursday.

* Football: Spring Creek 52, Mount Olive 20 -- Javon Newsome rushed for over 200 yards and three touchdowns for Spring Creek in a 52-20 rout on Thursday. Dominqiue Morse, Landon Smothers, Isaiah Gray and Jaylen Garner all found the end zone. Spring Creek is 2-1 on the season and hosts Brogden on Thursday.

* Soccer: Rosewood 4, Greenwood 3 -- Geovanni Abril scored twice in Rosewood's come-from-behind overtime victory on Thursday. Tyler Acord and Tyler Jordan also each found the net. Logan Mitchell had two assists. Jaleek Lewis, Axel Ortiz,and Tyler Scott notched goals for Greenwood. Rosewood hosts Dillard on Monday.

* Volleyball: Rosewood 3, Greenwood 0 -- Jessica Graham had seven aces to lead the Eagles to a 25-8, 25-14, 25-22 win over Greenwood on Thursday. Rosewood improves to 5-0 and hosts Dillard on Monday.

* Volleyball: Wayne School of Engineering 3, Brogden 0 -- Marcy Taylor had 12 aces to lead the Wayne School of Engineering past Brogden 25-19, 25-13, 25-15 on Thursday evening. Desiree Mills chipped in seven aces. WSE improved to 2-4 on the season and will play host to Grantham on Monday.

* Volleyball: Spring Creek 3, Grantham 1 -- Spring Creek won three straight sets after dropping the first to topple Grantham 21-25, 25-11, 25-10, 28-26 on Thursday. Madison Sullivan led the Gators with four hits. Spring Creek improved to 3-2 overall.
