Augillon, Thurston continue season-long domination

SEVEN SPRINGS -- Ho hum.

Princeton's Jose Aguillon and North Duplin's Haley Thurston continued their season-long domination during the fourth Carolina 1-A Conference meet contested at Cliffs of the Neuse State Park on Tuesday.

Aguillon covered the 5k (3.1-mile) trek in 18 minutes, 26 seconds. Teammate Austin Sullivan placed second in 18:42. Rosewood's Dalton Farmer posted his best finish with a third-place time of 19:02.

Spring Creek's Allen Coor (19:09) claimed fourth, while Princeton's Jose Moreno crossed the line fifth in 19:09.10. Fellow Bulldog Brent Hurst and Rosewood's Jacob Johnson each posted an identical 19:33.

Princeton had five runners among the top 10 and captured the team portion with 23 points. Rosewood scored 43 points, followed by Hobbton (79), Spring Creek (85) and Lakewood (139).

Thurston, a sophomore, covered the challenging course with a personal-best 22:47 in conference action this season. Hobbton's Ashley Hinterleiter took second in 23:55, while Princeton's Althea Belageo was third in 24:11.

North Duplin's Genesis Orellana (24:27) and Princeton's Amber Johnson (24:31) secured the fourth and fifth spots, respectively.

Rosewood's Rebecca Fitzmaurice crossed the line seventh in 24:57. Ashley Marriner emerged as Spring Creek's top runner with a 12th-place effort of 25:51.

The Bulldogs edged Hobbton 37-48 for first place in team competition. Rosewood slipped past North Duplin 75-78 for third place. Lakewood tallied 125 points.
