Princeton sweeps Carolina 1A cross country meet

NEWTON GROVE -- Princeton continues to flirt with perfection.
Jose Aguillon led a 1-2-3 finish in the boys' 5k (3.1-mile) race and the Bulldogs posted a team-best 19 points in the third Carolina 1-A Conference meet of the season.
Rosewood finished a distant second with 48 points, followed by Spring Creek (85), Lakewood (103) and Hobbton (104). North Duplin and Neuse Charter did not have enough runners to post a team score.
Aguillon crossed the line in 18 minutes, 38 seconds. Teammates Austin Sullivan (18:39) and Jose Moreno (19:10) claimed second and third, respectively. Hunter Mitchell (5th, 19:19) and Brent Hurst (8th, 20:10) rounded out Princeton's scoring.
Spring Creek senior Allen Coor seized fourth in 19:16.
Rosewood's tandem of Dalton Farmer (19:29) and Jacob Johnson (19:58) wound up sixth and seventh, respectively.
Ryan Miller secured 29th for North Duplin.
"Our boys continue to show a lot of improvement and it has shown in the race results," PHS head coach Mark McLamb said. "Fifteen points is a perfect score in cross country and the guys really want to be able to accomplish that one day."
On the girls' side, Princeton squeaked out a 39-43 victory over Hobbton. North Duplin, led by sophomore Haley Thurston, earned third with 70 points. Rosewood (80) and Lakewood (124) rounded out the scoring teams.
Thurston won her third meet with a time of 23:58. Hobbton's Ashley Hinterleiter (24:23) and Princeton's Megan Evans (25:08) grabbed second and third, respectively.
Princeton's Altheia Balageo (25:11), Hobbton's Nicole Spell (25:16), Rosewood's Amy Elaina (25:17), Princeton's Amber Johnson (25:19), North Duplin's Genesis Orellana (25:46), Hobbton's Elvie Sumner (25:52) and Rosewood's Chelsea Holley (25:58) completed the top 10.
Spring Creek's Ashley Marriner took 13th in 27:12.
