Thurston, Aguillon record top times in Carolina 1A cross country meet

North Duplin's Haley Thornton and Princeton's Jose Aguillon each emerged victorious during the season-opening Carolina 1-A Conference meet contested at Rosewood.
Thurston ran the 5k course in 24 minutes, 29 seconds on the girls' side. Princeton's Altheia Balageo (24:47), Hobbton's Ashley Hinterleiter (24:50), Rosewood's Elaina Amy (25:10) and Princeton's Megan Evan (25:33) completed the top five.
Spring Creek's Ashley Marriner took 11th overall in 27:41.
Princeton edged Hobbton 34-39 in the team scoring. Rosewood captured third with 67 points, followed by North Duplin (83) and Lakewood (147).
Aguillon led a 1-2-3 finish for the Bulldogs in the boys' race with a first-place time of 18:52. Teammates Austin Sullivan (18:55) and Hunter Mitchell (19:04) secured second and third, respectively.
Hobbton's Abraheem Alwahishi (19:06) and Ivan Cruz (19:09) rounded out the top five.
Rosewood's Jacob Johnson seized seventh place in 19:57. Spring Creek senior Allen Coor crossed the line in ninth at 20:04. North Duplin's Ryan Miller wound up 40th in 26:21.
The Bulldogs won the seven-team meet with 26 points, followed by Hobbton (55), Rosewood (65), Lakewood (97) and Spring Creek (111). Neither Neuse Charter nor North Duplin had enough runners participate to record a team score.
