ECBL: CBA White slips past Wayne Christian

Chandler Matthews collected two RBI and earned the pitching win as CBA White handed Wayne Christian a 7-6 loss in ECBL play Thursday evening.
Matthews permitted two earned runs on five hits and posted five strikeouts in five innings on the rubber. Ryan Kearney tossed two-thirds of an inning and Gay secured the save with 11/3 innings of two-strikeout, one-hit relief.
Jake Flowers batted 2-for-2 and scored twice. Matthews, Kearney, Frederick, Gipson and Bradley Pate each registered a hit.
Hunter Burt, who grabbed a spot on the 2014 N.C. Independent Schools Athletic Association All-State 1-A baseball team, paced Wayne Christian's offense with three hits. Trey Hinton batted 2-for-3.
Ted Suggs, Brandon Price (two RBI), Trey Mozingo and Ryan Kennedy had one hit apiece. Tanner Rose recorded two RBI.
Suggs took the pitching loss.
Wayne Christian entertains North Lenoir Green at 6 p.m. Monday, while CBA White plays host to North Duplin.
