SWANSBORO -- Charles B. Aycock's Courtney Warner emerged victorious in two sprint events during the N.C. High School Athletic Association Class 3-A east regional track and field meet contested at Swansboro High School.
Warner won the 100-meter dash in 12.37 and topped the competition in the 200 dash in 25.48. She qualified for the season-ending state meet in Greensboro along with teammate Jade Creel, who placed fourth overall in the high jump.
"I'm proud of my young'uns," CBA head coach Roger Rhodes said. "Courtney has her sights set on a ring and Jade flew like a Falcon today."
Southern Wayne's Cierra Thompson posted a fourth-place time of 12.81 in the 100 and will join Warner at N.C. A&T State University on Friday. Eastern Wayne's Natasha Johnson punched her ticket to the state finals with a runner-up mark of 17 feet, 1/4-inch in the long jump.
On the boys' side, Eastern Wayne qualified three relays -- the 400, 800 and 1,600 squads. The 800 and 1,600 quartets finished regional runners-up, while the 400 foursome placed third. The Warriors' Romello Hamilton placed fourth in the 400 in 50.66 seconds.
Aycock's Berry Ellis qualified in the 200 after crossing the line fourth in 24.10 seconds.
