PIKEVILLE -- Charles B. Aycock beat county rival Southern Wayne, 8-4, at Charles Davis Field in a non-conference game to prepare both teams for the postseason.
The Golden Falcons used the game as their senior night.
"We honored seven seniors, and I thought they came and played well and responded well," CBA head coach Charles Davis said.
Logan Runyon (RBI) and Ben Rouse (RBI double) each had two hits for C.B. Aycock. Connor Crandall had a double and three RBI, while Tim Naughton had two RBI. Garrett Joyner rounded out the offense with a triple.
Naughton got his first start since before Easter and showed some rust in the win. He threw four innings, gave up three runs (two earned), struck out seven and walked five.
Rouse threw a scoreless inning of relief and struck out three. Noah West threw the final two innings and surrendered an unearned run.
Chase Horton paced the Saints' offense with two hits. Teammates Kevin Williams and Dallas Graham each had one hit and an RBI.
The Golden Falcons (15-9 overall) face Corinth-Holders in opening-round action of the N.C. High School Athletic Association playoffs either next Tuesday or Wednesday. The Saints (7-16) travel to Jacksonville in the first round.
