Wayne Christian finishes as CCC tournament runner-up

WILSON -- Regular-season champion Wayne Christian dropped a 10-4 decision to Grace Christian of Sanford in the championship game of the Carolina Christian 1-A Conference tournament Friday evening.
The Eagles managed eight hits, but couldn't overcome four errors.
Austin Howell and Brandon Price (RBI) each had two hits. Hunter Burt (RBI), Ted Suggs, Tanner Rose and Nick Easom provided one hit apiece.
Suggs took the pitching loss.
Trey Mozingo batted 2-for-3 as top-seeded Wayne Christian advanced to the title game with a 6-1 triumph over Trinity Christian of Raleigh.
Howell, Burt (RBI), Suggs (two RBI), Rose (RBI), Easom, Trey Hinton and Ryan Kennedy each contributed one hit. Holden Foster supplied an RBI and earned the pitching win with a complete-game, nine-strikeout performance on the mound.
Foster, Burt and Suggs earned first-team all-CCC recognition. Howell garnered second-team all-CCC accolades. Burt and Howell grabbed spots on the all-tournament team, while Suggs was selected the tournament's most outstanding player.
Wayne Christian (12-5 overall) has automatically qualified for the N.C. Independent Schools Athletic Association playoffs, which begin Tuesday. The Association will announce the 12-team field today.
