MOUNT OLIVE -- The University of Mount Olive's Dontrell Brite and Jasmine McDonald have been selected to the 2013-14 N.C. Collegiate Sports Information Association All-State men's and women's basketball teams, respectively.
Brite earned first-team accolades after helping lead the Trojans to a share of the Conference Carolinas regular-season championship. The 5-foot-9 junior guard averaged 16.3 points and 3.5 assists per game this past season.
He reached double figures in 15 of his final 16 games, including a career-best 27-point performance against Limestone (S.C.) College on Feb. 22. The Chesapeake, Va., native drained 16 of 19 free throws to help Mount Olive complete a regular-season sweep of Barton and grab the No. 1 seed for the conference tournament.
Brite also scored 30 points in a two-point exhibition loss at East Carolina, which earned an invitation to the CIT this season.
UMO concluded the year 19-9 overall.
McDonald garnered second-team recognition after becoming the first basketball player -- male or female -- to record two triple-doubles in one season. She accomplished the feat against Virginia Union and Erskine (S.C.) College.
One of five UMO seniors, McDonald averaged a double-double (12 points, 10 rebounds) and emerged as the Conference Carolinas rebounding champion. The 5-foot-7 guard ranked 28th nationally in assists and 33rd in rebounds.
McDonald helped lead the Trojans to the conference tournament championship game for the fifth time in the last seven years.
