CHAPEL HILL -- Freshman Adam Pate delivered the game-winning, walk-off single during a North Carolina's 3-2 victory over Xavier at Boshamer Stadium on Sunday afternoon.
The No. 12-ranked Tar Heels entered the bottom of the ninth inning down 2-1. Alex Raburn tied the game with a run-scoring single to left field and Pate, a Charles B. Aycock alum, followed with an infield hit between third base and shortstop.
It was Pate's first hit of the season.
UNC (3-3 overall) won the weekend series and returns to action at home Thursday against in-state foe Appalachian State.
