MOUNT OLIVE -- Angel Dache cranked out a match-high 19 kills and the University of Mount Olive turned back Coker (S.C.) College 25-17, 37-25, 25-22 at Kornegay Arena on Tuesday evening.
The Trojans snapped a six-game skid.
Steven Cruse finished with 14 kills for Mount Olive, while starting setter Quaid Marin tallied 49 assists and eight digs. Cruse and Marin each served two aces.
Libero Josh Donahue recorded a team-high nine digs and four different Trojans finished with two blocks.
Garrett Dimm's kill broke a 35-35 tie and Dache's school-record 14th kill of the second set gave Mount Olive a two-set lead. Each team fended off six set points.
The longest set in UMO volleyball history -- men or women -- was a 74-point second set against the Edinboro (Pa.) University women in quarterfinal-round play of the 2005 NCAA Division II East Regional. The Trojans lost the set 38-36.
The third set didn't require "overtime," but Mount Olive needed kills by Cruse and Andrew Sydow to break away from a 17-17 tie and go on top to stay. The Trojans clinged to a 23-22 lead before a Coker service error and Dache's kill ended the match.
Mount Olive (2-6 overall) entertains in-state Conference Carolinas foe Lees-McRae on Friday, and King (Tenn.) University on Saturday afternoon.
