Rosewood matmen advance to 1A east regional final

BISCOE -- Rosewood punched its ticket to the N.C. High School Athletic Association Class 1-A eastern regional dual-team wrestling championship for the second straight year by winning a pair of matches at East Montgomery on Tuesday evening.
The Eagles (40-2 overall) play host to perennial Yadkin Valley powerhouse Chatham Central (18-4) in the eastern finals on Thursday. The NCHSAA has set a start time of 7 p.m.
Jordan Batson started Rosewood with 55-second fall over East Montgomery Rafael Villalobos in their 138-pound bout. Trevor Thompson (152) earned a decision, followed by consecutive pins from Kaleb Smith (160) and Joshua Drew (170).
Garner Beasley (195), Rayquon Jones (220), heavyweight Adam Henn, Malique Boyd (113), Andrew Magliochetti (120), Nick Martin (126) and Sam Drew (132) also emerged victorious.
East yielded two forfeits.
Pamlico owned a 4-3 edge in contested individual matches, but surrendered seven forfeits in its season-ending loss. Evan Reiss (152) and heavyweight Kaleb Taylor each pinned their respective opponent for Rosewood.
Smith (160), Josh Drew (182), Jones (220), Jayden Thomas (106), Boyd (113), Magliochetti (126), Martin (132) and Sam Drew (138) also won.
