Plagued by a fractured left ankle since late January, Ben Sawyer refused to watch his final game from the bench Tuesday evening.
The Wayne Christian senior played 20 minutes, opening the game with layup and finishing with a 3-pointer during a 69-22 loss to Goldsboro Heat at Clifford Gymnatorium. Sawyer finished with a team-high 11 points.
"Ben has a big heart when it comes to playing basketball," Wayne Christian head coach Roger Longwell said. "You talk about someone leaving it all on the floor ... Ben did just that tonight."
Senior cheerleader Savanna Johnson and senior basketball player Victoria Combs were also recognized at halftime.
