A seven-point outburst in 27 seconds propelled Eastern Wayne to a comfortable 55-33 win over Eastern Carolina 3-A/4-A Conference rival Charles B. Aycock on Friday night.
The Warriors jumped out to a 16-8 lead after one quarter on a pair of 3-pointers by Tianna Christopher. The second quarter was slow for both sides as the Golden Falcons controlled the pace.
With less than two minutes to play in the first half, Eastern Wayne needed just 27 seconds to pad a 10-point advantage. Naheria Hamilton buried a 3-pointer, Megan Mozingo turned a steal into a layup and Shontel Monk hit a jumper.
Eastern Wayne led 30-12 at halftime.
Each coach emptied his respective bench in the second half.
Christopher led all scorers with 16 points. Monk added 12 points and Elondia Grant scored eight. Hamilton contributed five points, eight rebounds and seven blocked shots.
Taylor Daniels and Myleah Jones paced Aycock with 13 and 10 points, respectively.
Eastern Wayne, the reigning ECC regular-season and tournament champion, travels to county rival Southern Wayne on Tuesday. Aycock entertains South Johnston on Wednesday.
